Hayden Calnin; ‘Waves’ plus His Favorite Films

Hayden Calnin has a new Ep, Dirt, that releases this summer. The single, Waves, a song born out of regret, is already available. Calnin shared his truth behind the song.  “Waves was written for a good friend and became my interpretation of what was going on in that friend’s head whilst battling severe mental health issues, I wasn’t always able to be there to help them through it and the song evolved into somewhat of an ode to me being a bit of a shit friend when they really needed someone around. I wanted to let that friend know I’m always thinking of them.” The EP, as a whole, is said to remain focused on mental health issues faced by today’s youth and young adults.

I’ve seen a lot of comments associating the song’s title with the waves of emotions or chills you might feel while listening and I agree. The haunting harmonies of Waves combined with Calnin’s beautiful style of alternative electronic folk sound are leaving many anticipating the full EP’s release.

Some facts about Calnin: Home is Melbourne, Australia. His life has been musically inclined since early adolescence. He plays multiple instruments and graduated from film school with a major in sound design. 2012 saw, City, his impressive independently released debut album, brought to life. 2014 yielded yet another release with the critically acclaimed Oh, Hunter. 2016 gave birth to an ambitious two part album, Cut Love Pt. 1 and 2. His music has earned multiple TV placements including his single, Cut Love, which closed season 8 of HBO’s Vampire Diaries.

Calnin gave me a list of his top 5 favorite Films:

Before Sunrise (1995)

Before Sunset (2004)

Before Midnight (2013)

Star Wars-A New Hope (1977)

A Scanner Darkly (2006)

I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Hayden Calnin. He’s pretty much nailed the past and present.
